SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND LAUNCHES THIS YEAR
This year has, to date, been busy, and exciting, with events  organised around the country for the launch of 'Gardens of Eden: among the world's most beautiful gardens'. This book, which includes more than 80 of the world's loveliest gardens, and more than 500 photographs, will be in the bookshops from 30th March. I travelled the world, over five years, to photograph these gardens, and to interview their owners and creators.

GARDEN HISTORY LECTURE
I will present a 'Gardens of India' lecture on Friday 6 November 2009, during which I will discuss the extraordinary paintings displayed in the exhibition Garden and Cosmos: The Royal Paintings of Jodhpur – to be held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 29 October 2009 to 26 January 2010 – among them depictions of lush gardens set around glittering palaces.

The lecture will set the 55 paintings in this exhibition - which has been lent by the British Museum - within the context of the history of Indian gardens: the influence of ancient Persia on the Mughal garden, the plant material relied upon, and the meanings contained in the constructed landscapes.

The foundations of the city of Jodhpur and its Mehrangarh Fort were laid in 1459, and the Mehrangarh Museum was established in 1972, within the walls of the Fort. Today the Museum contains the fine and applied arts of the Raiput Mughal period, when, during the 18th and 19th centuries artists developed a unique style of painting, interpreting more ancient themes and techniques and representing ancient texts.
